Latest DESNZ Public Attitudes Tracker results published

The latest findings from the triannual DESNZ Public Attitudes Tracker suggest that Net Zero target awareness remains very high at 90%. The latest data also revealed that 77% are concerned about climate change - down slightly from 79% in Summer 2025 and 85% in Autumn 2021. 68% support government action to cut UK emissions (including 45% who support it strongly); 12% oppose.
People see the main responsibility with businesses/industry (35%) and government (31%), with 16% pointing to the general public. 39% agree the UK is a global leader on climate (20% disagree; both unchanged from Winter 2024), while 65% say it’s important that the UK leads globally (down from 69% last winter).
Where renewables are concerned, support for wind, solar and biomass is strong at 78% (opposition stable at 5%), though down from 87% in Autumn 2021. Awareness of Great British Energy is 57% and Clean Power 2030 is 83% (both unchanged since Summer 2025).
Support for nuclear is 44% (unchanged year‑on‑year; up from 37% in Winter 2021). Opposition has eased to 11% (from 14% last winter). 75% are aware the UK needs more electricity network infrastructure (down from 81% in Summer 2025). During planning, people most want information on bill impacts (48%), effects on local wildlife (40%), and visual impact (40%).
Awareness continues to rise for air source heat pumps (77%) and ground source (72%); lower for biomass (63%), heat networks (52%), hybrid heat pumps (52%), hydrogen boilers (44%), and hydrogen‑ready (35%). Among owner‑occupiers, likely/already installing: ASHP 22%, GSHP 12%, hybrid 14%, biomass 10%. 41% are unlikely to install an ASHP; 30-38% feel they don’t yet know enough.
