FETA finalises response to draft CBAM regulations

FETA members met on 20 March to finalise a response to the UK’s draft CBAM regulations.
While supporting the framework, members highlighted major risks - especially downstream circumvention, as finished goods (e.g., HVAC units) currently fall outside scope, enabling carbon‑intensive components to enter unregulated.
FETA is calling for a public anti‑circumvention plan, clearer default emissions values for 2027, and an 18‑month notice period before indirect‑emissions obligations begin. SMEs face significant administrative burdens, and FETA is urging Government to allow authorised agents to complete registrations. The scheme launches 1 January 2027.
